Purple Flash
Purple Flash is a fast-burning rocket propellant for use in EX motors. Burning with a beautiful violet-tipped flame, this propellant has the capability of generating immense amount of pressure with ease.
Details
The formula for Purple Flash is as follows: 22.50% Ammonium perchlorate, 400 μm 52.50% Ammonium perchlorate, 200 μm 4.00% Magnesium, -325 mesh 1.00% Copper chromite 13.42% HTPB R-45HTLO (Eq. Wt. 1234) 4.00% IDP 0.30% HX-878 Tepanol 2.28% MDI (Eq. Wt. 185) 1 drop / 500 g propellant PDMS |
The thermodynamic and burn-rate numbers for Purple Flash: a = 0.0186 in/s n = 0.486 Molecular weight = 22.51 g/mol Specific heat ratio = 1.243 C* = 4639 ft/s |
Although this propellant is a packable (which is the objectively incorrect way to cast propellant), it is still a very fun propellant to work with and can lift just about anything out there. This propellant is not forgiving in the slightest, so if you do decide to make it, please make sure to have had experience mixing solid propellant in the past. Also, be sure to recalculate your binder ratios for your own specific equivalent weights to ensure a proper cure.
